Camcorder yang diproduksi tahun 2009 ini merupakan DVCAM  camcorder terbaru yang dirancang oleh Sony. Sebelumnya Sony mengeluarkan DSR-PD 170 yang juga sukses dipasar. DSR-PD 177 ini mempunyai kualitas gambar yang tidak diragukan lagi, dengan sistem PAL (Phase Atterninh Line).

Camcorder DSR-PD 177 mempunyai perhatian penting pada gambar, mobilitas, profesionalitas untuk para pemakainya. Dengan tambahan audio, kualitas gambar, serta sistem operasi yang baru membuat camcorder ini terlihat sangat profesional. Sistem sensor yang digunakan juga sangat baik, dengan sensitivitas cahaya rendah 1.5 lux untuk memaksimalkan potensi sistem gambar. 

Lensa yang digunakan dalam camcorder ini adalah Sony G Lens 20x Optical.  Termasuk lensa dengan performa tinggi G Lens yang menggabungkan teknologi optik yang unik dan kualitas kontrol tidak tertandingi.

Selain itu, Sony PD 177 ini memudahkan penggunanya dengan sistem kerja berbasis sehingga file lebih mudah untuk diproses. Dengan mengubungkan HVR-MRC1K (Memory Recording Unit) dengan i.link konektor sehingga hasil gambar mudah diproses untuk HYBRID. Jadi penggunanya dapat lebih mudah merekam bersamaan video footage ke tape dan flash card. Lebih efesien untuk kerja. Optical Sensor Type PD 177 ini adalah CMOS. 

Harga yang ditawarkan oleh Sony pun tidak main-main. Untuk satu camcorder ini, anda harus merogoh kocek dalam-dalam, karena satu unit Sony DSR-PD 177 dijual dengan harga USD 2820 atau Rp 28.000.000.
